TERRIBLE ACCIDENT

A MAN HAS BOTH LEGS AND ONE ARM AMPUTATED BY A CIRCULAR SAW AT NICHOLAS’ MILL.

Nicholas’ mill, four miles north of this village, was made the scene of a most terrible accident on Wednesday afternoon at about four o’clock, the particulars of which, as near as we can learn, are as follows: A man by the name of HOLCOMB went to the mill to get lumber which he had there and entering the mill stood watching the sawyer, who

requested him to assist in moving a truck of lumber, and in doing so was in some manner caught in the saw which severed one leg below the knee, striking the other leg below the knee taking out a slice which nearly severed it from the body. Dr. BROWN was called and help being required the assistance of Dr. COOPER was procured. All was done for the sufferer that could be done but to no avail as he expired in about four hours. He leaves a wife and several children in rather straightened circumstances. The deceased was a brother-in-law of Mr. Joel CHAPMAN, of Conway, and an excellent Christian man, respected by all who knew him.

Friday December 10. 1875

Two very sudden deaths have occurred in this vicinity during the last week. The first being that of Aaron SANDERS a well known laborer and for years past a resident of this village, which occurred about two miles west of Howell, on Thursday last, on the farm of John CASTERTON. The deceased was assisting in clearing out a well when a loose stone near the top became displaced and falling struck him on the head, killing him almost instantly. The funeral took place on Sunday from the M. E. Church. The other was that of Jimmie DANIELS, which occurred on Saturday at his residence, near the railroad, the cause being heart disease. He was on the street until the hour of noon, but on going home was taken to his bed and expired very suddenly at four o’clock. He was buried from the Baptist Church on Monday.
