Michigan
Infantry Record Book
This is a very interesting record book about this division in the Civil War that I believe was pulled together in the SW Michigan area. There are numerous towns that are listed that are still there today and many that are no longer there. I was astounded by the amount of individuals who had deserted or were AWOL. But perhaps facing probable death, one never knows what I would have chosen. The all name index includes those who hired substitutes. There is also an index of the home towns of those volunteers who listed this information. Both of these indexes were created by Pam Rietsch. Over 2500 names are included in this work.

35TH SPANISH AMERICAN
VOLUNTEER
Infantry SOUVENIR BOOK
Printed in 1898, I am so excited about this particular book. I had been doing some Nebraska items and I knew people were wanting me to do some Livingston County items when I came across this little book for the Michigan 35th Volunteer Infantry for the Spanish American War. Little did I realize that this was the very division that was stationed here in Livingston County at Island Lake. So I kill several birds with one stone, so to speak. I did take the webmaster's authority and re-alphabetize the lists of the privates in each company, either the author did not know the alphabet or I dunno, but they were pretty mixed up. Some neat photos! I also created an all name index, over 1400 names.
