| CAPTAIN
PATRICK MOSTYN
As was meet for a man of his name and descent, Captain Patrick Mostyn was born on St. Patrick's day. The happy event occurred in LePage county, Ill., in 1858. Since he joined the police force on June 4, 1884, he has held every position obtaining in the same with the exception of Chief, and he has acted in that office on numerous occasions. At present he is Senior Captain. As a young man, Pat Mostyn worked about the farm and later learned the machinist's trade. He came to Omaha in 1877 and immediately secured a position at the Union Pacific shops, where he toiled until his appointment to the police force. At that time Marshal Cummings was at the head of the handful of police and the times were troublous. Mostyn conducted himself so well and proved such an excellent officer that he soon became roundsman. In 1892 he was made Chief of Detectives, the office being created, at that time. A few years more and he was police captain, which position he has held ever since, with the exception of two shoat periods when politics made it best for him to resign. Captain Mostyn's forte is said to be in "sweating" and he has an enviable reputation with the police of other cities in this respect. His kindly, forceful and suave methods have secured much valuable information for the department. He lives at 2016 Spencer street, where he has been for twenty-six years. He has a wife and seven children, the oldest being twenty-five and the youngest five years of age. |
