     Born in Minden, Nebraska, July 18, 1924. Was graduated from University of Nebraska, B.Sc. degree 1949. Member of Beta Sigma Psi fraternity and Innocents Society. Served in United States Army in Pacific during World War II, and in Korean War. Married Lorna L. Bornholdt, July 19, 1950; four children: Mary Catherine, Norbert T., Jr., Lorna Christine, and Amy Eileen. Is a banker. Served as assistant county agent; as assistant manager, Nebraska Hereford Association; as executive secretary, National Livestock Feeders Association; as director, Industry Relations of National Livestock and Meat Board; as 1964 chairman, Nebraska Heart Fund; as mayor, City of Wausa; as president, Nebraska Bankers Association in 1964 and 1965; as member, Republican Budget and Finance Committee; as chairman, Knox County Republican Central Committee; and as vice president, American Bankers Association. Member, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Elected Governor November 8, 1966, for a four-year term.

Past president, Nebraska Safety Council and Nebraska Motor Carriers Association; past chairman, Omaha Subcommittee of Omaha Chamber of Commerce Public Highways Committee and Inter-City Committee, Omaha; past director, Happy Hollow Country Club. Is serving as allied member, Associated General Contractors of America; director, State Chamber of Commerce; and vice president, American Trucking Association from State of Nebraska. Former president, Trinity Men's Club, president, National Association of Secretaries of State 1963, Member of executive committee and chairman, Conference Site Committee, N.A.S.S.; Gateway Sertoma Club (former president and chairman of the Board 1963-64). Graduate of Staff and Command School, Civil Defense Headquarters. Battle Creek, Michigan; and graduate of 1963 and 1964 National Parole Institutes. Member of the following organizations: National Livestock Brand Conference; National Council on Crime and Delinquency; American Correctional Association; Nebraska Probation and Parole Association; Mayor's Committee for International Visitors and chairman of the Professional Counterpart; vice president, Central States Correction Association; Lincoln Personnel Association; American Legion Post No. 3; V.F.W. Served in United States Navy, World War II. Married Ruth McDonald, June 22, 1946; two children. Former owner of excavating business. Is a plumber. Past president, Midwest Association of Railroad and Utilities Commissioners. Past Chairman of State Railway Commission. Alternate joint board member, Interstate Commerce Commission; member, Baptist Church; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 154; I.O.O.F., Jonathan Lodge No. 225; Masonic Order No. 281; VFW Post 131; honorary life member. Crestview Lodge, Sarpy Post No. 9675 VFW. Elected State Railway Commissioner in 1956. Re-elected November 6, 1962. Resigned January, 1967 from Railway Commission to accept duties as State Treasurer to which office Mr. Swanson was elected on November 8, 1966, for a four-year term.
