JOSEPH JACOB BROWN

SketchImageSketch     Born in Hamburg. Iowa. Has lived in Nebraska since 1906. Ancestry, English. Irish and Scotch. Attended public schools of Nebraska. University of Colorado, and was graduated in 1923 from the College of Law, University of Nebraska, with LL.B. degree. Member, Acacia fraternity. Admitted to the practice of Law in the Supreme Court of the United States, state and federal courts of Nebraska, state courts of Missouri and the Interstate Commerce Commission. Married B. Fern Bentz in 1925; four children. Practiced law in Kansas City, Missouri; and Humboldt, Nebraska. Served as city attorney in Humboldt, Nebraska. Became associated with the Nebraska, State Railway Commission in 1941 as an examiner in the Motor Transportation Department, promoted to chief examiner and director of the Department. In 1943 was made secretary of the Commission and served in that office until 1952. Resigned secretaryship April, 1952, to accept appointment as Commissioner to fill unexpired term of Walter F. Roberts, resigned. Chairman of State Railway Commission from 1954 to May 1964. Past president and legislative representative, National Association Grain Warehouse Supervisors; and past president, National Association of Railway and Utilities Commissioners. Member, American, Lancaster County, and Nebraska State Bar Associations; Masonic Bodies; Shrine; Eastern Star; Elks; Eagles; Rotary; and joint board member, Interstate Commerce Commission. Member of the Congregational Church. Elected Railway Commissioner 1952 and 1958. Re-elected November 3, 1964.

ROBERT T. MARLAND

     Born Danielson, Connecticut. January 20, 1918. Graduate of high school of Green Mountain, Connecticut; Vermont College, (degree). Attended Air Force Flying School at Maxwell Field, Alabama. Retired Air Force Major. Holder of Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medals and Presidential Unit Citation. Married Helen Farrar, Hyannis. Nebraska, on February 2, 1945; two children: Robert, Jr., and Joan. Cattle rancher at Mullen, Nebraska. Former radio station owner at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Past president, Hooker City School Board, and Rotary International. Is finance chairman of Overland Trails, Boy Scouts of America. Member: Nebraska Stockgrowers Association; Educational Television Advisory Committee; State School Accreditation Committee; B.P.O. Elks; V.F.W.; American Legion and Masonic Order. On February 13, 1967, appointed by Governor Tiemann to Railway Commission to fill unexpired two-year term of Mr. Wayne R. Swanson who resigned to become State Treasurer.

     Born Omaha, Nebraska, February 22, 1922. Was graduated from South High School, Omaha; and Van Sant School of Business, Omaha. Married Miss Bruckner, May 30, 1949; four children: Carol, Jay, Patrick and Mary Jane. Director of Public Relations for Rosen-Novak. Has been employed in sales department, Cudahy Packing Co.; and has been assistant meat buyer and field auditor, A. & P. food stores. Served as alternate delegate, Democratic National Convention, 1964; as member, Democratic Central Committee 1064; and as member, Douglas County Democratic Central Committee. Member of: Democratic State Executive Committee of 1966; K. of C. No. 3019; K. of C. degree team; Ak-Sar-Ben; Eagles; Hibernian; Optimist; American SoKol; Omaha Traffic Club; Omaha Businessmen's Association; "Q." Owned and edited weekly newspapers at Clearwater, Elgin and Madison, Nebraska. Owner and operator of Columbus Lithograph and Printing, Columbus, Nebraska. Past member, Antelope County Republican Committee; and past president, Northeast Nebraska Press Association. Municipal judge at Columbus, Nebraska, from April 15, 1963 to September 1, 1964. Member, Columbus Republican Committee and American Legion. Elected Railway Commissioner, Third District, November 3, 1964.

     Born May 24, 1911, in Nebraska. Graduate of Wilcox, Nebraska, High School and University of Nebraska, B.Sc. degree. Officer, U. S. Army. Married Miss De Jonge, July 21, 1937; four children: John, Sidney, Sue Ellen, and Gloria Jean. Was a farmer and county agricultural agent. Is a banker. Is president, Eustis Chamber of Commerce; member, Rotary and Lions Clubs. Elected Railway Commissioner, Fifth District, on November 3, 1964.
