The Trail of the Loup,
being a History of the Loup River Region
1906 by H. W. Fought.
This book is 296 pages of great stories, history and adventure during the early 1850's to the early turn of the century in 1900 in the Loup River Valley, Nebraska. This included the North Loup River, the Middle Loup River and the Lower Loup River Regions...stories from blizzards to locusts, to Indian clashes, to the rough struggles of early towns.
The first 3 or 4 chapters are kinda dry, all about the actual forming of the land in and around Nebraska and how it formed through the dinosaur age etc. To know that Nebraska was underwater, not once but twice I found fascinating.
There are marvelous pictures in this book...and tons of early biographies. Complete with an all name index by Pam Rietsch
