BALDWIN ENGINE 1833

This engine, built by Baldwin next after the "Ironsides" was arranges with a 4 wheeled swiveling truck or bogie.

It had outside cylinders, but the connecting rod worked upon a crank inside of the wheels, the framing being wholly outside of the wheels. This peculiar form of crank axle patented by Mr. Baldwin Sep. 10, 1834, was known as the "half crank" and was long employed by him.
