PETIET'S ENGINE BY GOUIN, PARIS, 1863

     

    

     This engine was designed by M. Petiet, engineer in chief of the Northern Railway of France and constructed by M. M. Gouin et Cie of Paris.

     It had six pairs of drivers grouped in sets of 3 each, each set being worked by a separate pair of cylinders.

     Cylinders 17 1/3" dia x 17 1/3" stroke; dia. of drivers 3'6" total wheel base 19'8¼", weight of engine in working order 59 tons, gauge of track 4'7½"

     Boiler 58" dia., 464 tubes 1 37/64 dia., 11'5¾" long, firebox 72¾ long, 70 7/8" wide placed above the drivers, boiler pressure 118 lbs.

     The waste heat instead of passing directly to the stack, traversed a tubular steam chamber for drying the steam, the stack and blast pipe were placed horizontal and stack was turned up at its end.
