COMPOUND LOCOMOTIVE NORTHERN RAILWAY OF FRANCE 1886

     

    

     These engines were built for high speed passenger service by the Alsation Society in 1886, and have four cylinders, two of which are high pressure and two low pressure. The two high pressure being placed inside, and the two low pressure on the outside, the high pressure being attached to the front pair of drivers and the low to the back pair. The wheels themselves not being connected with parallel rods.

     Cylinders 13" and 18" by 24" stroke, heating surface 1109 sq. ft. drivers 82.68 inches diameter; weight of engine 74,500 lbs.
