PENNSYLVANIA R. R. CO'S PASSENGER LOCOMOTIVE 1887

     

    

     This cut shows the standard passenger locomotives of the Pennsylvania R. R. Co. in 1887, and which were built at the shops of the company at Altoona, Penn. from plans and specifications prepared by the Mechanical Engineers Office.

     The cylinders are 18½" dia. b y 24" stroke; drivers 68" dia. heating surface 1530 square ft.; total weight of engine in working order 100,600 lbs.

     These engines had wagen (?) top boilers, which type has since been superseded by the Belpaire boiler. Tenders were of 3600 gallons water capacity and fitted with water scoop.
